We call it “Lifation”

As I write this, Scott and I are sitting about half a mile from the west gate of Yellowstone National Park. One might have thought we’d spent our morning hiking through aromatic pine forests, dodging active geysers, or photographing majestic mountain waterfalls.

But one would have been incorrect, as our morning activities were anything but Yellowstone-esque.

Instead, we vacuumed the Airstream floor, cleaned the bathroom, fixed a loose fastener on the pull-out cabinet that houses our microwave, and stirred up a meatloaf we’ll bake later for dinner.

In short, we have come to understand that life on the road, while filled with fun adventures and new experiences, is still, well … just life.

There is cleaning and laundry to be done, bills to be paid, menus to be planned, groceries to be bought, and home repairs to be made. We pick up propane instead of dry cleaning, but we still must run errands.

Don’t get me wrong: I love the life we’re living and am not complaining. Lord knows how lucky I am to be able to experience this kind of freedom.

But I remember our conversation the second day out on the road when Scott informed me “this is not vacation, Janie, it’s real life.”

Darn that Scott … more often than not, he’s right and this is definitely one of those times.

Our current existence is a unique combination of real life and vacation. We call it “Lifation,” and we laugh. We talk about all we’ve learned since we left home two months ago – about RVing, about ourselves and about each other. It’s good. And I am grateful.

On another note, in addition to completing those household chores, this morning I uploaded yesterday’s photos, taken as we made a day trip south through Teton National Park. More to come on that later, but for now, here’s a sneak peak. There may well be a Christmas card photo in this batch.

Don’t worry, Torre. Despite lifation chores, there’s no way I’m going to miss my occasional treat! In fact, we are in Boise today and I’m going to hunt down a Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte – yummy!
